Marseille
in progress
In 2025, the first action and research platform was created, which conceives of architecture as a cultural discipline to lay the foundations for the city of the future: Go Play Outside!
Initiated by Mathieu Poitevin—surrounded by all those who are inspired by Go Play Outside!—the platform is deployed like a year-round label, through two commitments:
- action led by the Architecture Studio, focusing on the challenges of architectural creation and through upcoming deliveries (below) and current and past projects.
- research led by a public-interest association that, since 2019, has supported Le Festival de la Ville, an annual event held in September in Marseille, focusing on the fundamental issues of creating a city differently, and is expressed through quarterly euphoric workshops and the biannual journal: L'architecture euphorique.
For a Metabolic City
Manifesto of the Action and Research Platform
"United around a shared vision, the forces of Go Play Outside! are united in a common spirit: that of resolutely joyful emancipation because nothing lends itself to it today. Doing things together, in pleasure, audacity, and re-creation, is the beating heart of our action.
Our buildings draw their resources from the spirit of the cabins. They are not refuges, they are experiences of life, outposts of an unbridled imagination, locally anchored, globally irrigated.
Like Oulipo, which wrote with constraints to better free itself from them, we hack the city by producing urban forms with rules... that aren't rules. This is our radical nature." Reversing logic, turning the tables: what is outside becomes inside, the individual blends with the collective, the margins become the center.
Architecture must not participate in the destruction of the Earth but, on the contrary, it must contribute to its regeneration. Therefore, we do not seek to design objects but to create situations.
Go Play Outside! is an exceptional platform because it is unlike any other. It asserts its singularity, its ability to think differently, freer, more insolent, more vibrant. Its mode of use? Not having any. Or rather: inventing your rules as you go. A rule without rules.
Our cabins are the freest forms of architecture. Fragile and powerful at the same time, they embody our desire for constant reinvention.
Small, light, mobile, or immense, they oppose concrete certainties.
They don't settle,
they insinuate themselves.
They don't possess,
they share.
They don't freeze,
they open.
They transport the imagination and,
in doing so, transform the ordinary.
This manifesto is not an end, it's a beginning.
An invitation to transgress without violence, to build with insolence, to create an even stronger emancipation within constraints. And thus: to liberate occupied spaces, to occupy liberated spaces.
Change the world?
It's imperative!
Let the cabins do their work.
During the last quarter of the year, Studio Va jouer dehors! is delivering two cultural projects in France—remarkable because they are unique: LE ZEF in Marseille and MIXT (formerly Le Grand T) in Nantes.
The Festival de la Ville is holding its 4th edition - Ordinary?: September 12, 2025
