Heritage and Architecture of the Outskirts
Creating the Heritage of Tomorrow
The Smallest Circus in the World is participating in the programming of the Petite Agora of the Greater Paris Metropolis, as part of the Île-de-France Architecture and Landscape Biennial 2025!
The Smallest Circus in the World is the first Cultural Encounter Center—awarded the label in 2023—dedicated to the Heritage and Architecture of the Outskirts, exploring, on a daily basis, the links between heritage, artistic creation, and urban transformation.
Its participation in the BAP! Île-de-France is part of an approach to recognize, promote, and imagine the heritage and architecture of urban outskirts.
For the 3rd edition of the Île-de-France Region Architecture and Landscape Biennial, whose theme is "The Living City," Le Plus Petit Cirque du Monde is co-designing the program for the Pavillon Petite Agora of the Greater Paris Metropolis, in collaboration with the Greater Paris Metropolis, the Maison de l'Architecture Île-de-France, and the Pavillon de l'Arsenal—the architectural design of which was entrusted to the Jean-Christophe Quinton agency.
A three-part program (see below) combines debates, performances, meetings, and student presentations to highlight the landscapes of the Île-de-France region and explore emerging architectural and urban practices.
A unique cultural venue in France, Le Plus Petit Cirque du Monde is a laboratory for artistic, architectural, civic, and heritage initiatives rooted in its region. Founded in Bagneux (Hauts-de-Seine) in 1992, The Smallest Circus in the World has been symbolized since 2015 by a totemic contemporary architectural design: a large 28-meter-high "origami," designed by Loïc Julienne and Patrick Bouchain.
Since its inception, The Smallest Circus in the World has pursued a civic, popular, and challenging artistic project that places encounters and experimentation at the heart of its activities. Every day, within the space designed by Loïc Julienne, The Smallest Circus in the World builds relationships and writes new stories with those who live in our neighborhoods.
Convinced of the vitality and diversity of the peripheries, The Smallest Circus in the World promotes the Heritage and Architecture of the Peripheries program to engage and act collectively to create the heritage of tomorrow by rethinking the role of young people – through art, education, and the promotion of the cultural diversity of peripheral neighborhoods.
At a time of major metropolitan changes, Le Plus Petit Cirque du Monde invites researchers, young people, elected officials, artists and cultural actors to participate in the Petite Agora of the Greater Paris Metropolis to imagine together the heritage and architecture of tomorrow.
